Course Description: 
This program is your guide to legal and regulatory issues, with special emphasis on the Uniform Commercial Code.

Audience:  Entry-level and officer-level personnel who are new to banking or require a refresher course on the legal basis for many banking services and transactions.

Learning Objectives:  After successfully completing this program, you will be able to:

  • Identify the sources and applications of banking law

  • Distinguish between torts and crimes and how they relate to banking situations

  • Explain contracts, including the need for legal capacity, legal objective, mutual assent, and consideration

  • Describe real and personal properties and their application to banking

  • Discuss how bankruptcy affects banks and differentiate between the liquidation and rehabilitation goals of the Bankruptcy Code

  • Explain the legal implications of electronic banking

Textbook:  Law and Banking, 6th Edition, 2008.  The same textbook is used for Law and Banking: Principles.

Credit:  AIB: 3.0; ICB: 38.5 CCTS, CLBB or CRCM

ACE College Credit Recommendation:  In the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 3 semester hours in Economics or Social Science elective.
