DEI Matters Symposium

This session is open to all attendees and designed to bring every aspect of the industry together for a meaningful conversation about Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

Our keynote speaker, Victoria Christopher Murray, will engage and inspire with her story of The Personal Librarian. In a Q&A session following the keynote, practitioners will explore current best practices for our industry and share ideas on how to supercharge your organization’s program.

Victoria Christopher Murray is the author of more than thirty novels. She is the winner of nine African American Literary Awards for Fiction and Author of the Year. She is a four-time NAACP Image Award Nominee for Outstanding Fiction for her social commentary novel, Stand Your Ground. In 2021, she teamed up with author Marie Benedict to co-author the best-selling book The Personal Librarian, the remarkable and little-known true story of Belle da Costa Greene, J.P. Morgan's personal librarian, who became one of the most powerful women in New York while at the same time hiding her true identity as a person of color in order to protect her employment and support her financially dependent extended family. The symposium will explore the origins of the book and its connections to New York and modern-day work environments, as well as its underlying message about how embracing or denying identity can shape one’s path, both as an employer and employee.
